A winter paradise for snow sports fans

Countless kilometres of slopes are waiting for skiers and snowboarders, but the Region of Bern has many other winter sports that are just waiting to be explored.
Breathtaking mountain panorama and almost unlimited possibilities, that’s what makes the ski areas in the Region of Bern so special. The region is among the pioneers of winter sports destinations. The Hotel Baer in Grindelwald, for example, opened its doors for the first time in winter 1888. Today the ski areas offer fun in the snow for sports lovers of all ages and all levels – whether it is skiing, snowboarding, freeriding, telemark skiing, freestyle, cross-country or going on a ski tour. Around 800 km of slopes and 224 ski lifts are waiting for skiers and snowboarders in the Bernese Oberland.

Tobogganing fun and snow hikes

The mountains of the Bernese Oberland can also be explored on sleds or on foot. How about a fast-paced toboggan ride on Europe’s longest toboggan run? Riders start on the Faulhorn and cover a total distance of 15 km with their toboggan until they reach Grindelwald. For those who love fun and action, the modern adaption of a toboggan is a must: In Mürren daredevils can whizz down the hill while lying or sitting on a snow tube. If you prefer a little bit less action and a more seduced pace, you should take part in a snowshoe tour or a winter hike. The Bernese Oberland, the Emmental, the Nature Park Gantrisch or the Bernese Jura offer boundless hiking routes which are worthwhile exploring.
